METHADONE ANONYMOUS GENERAL MEETING FORMAT

 

(Be sure to start the meeting ON TIME EVERY TIME ...even if there is only one person besides yourself!)

Hello, my name is_____ (your name here) _____, and I am a grateful recovering addict.

We would like to welcome you to M.A.’s ______ (Name of your group) ______meeting. We meet here on every _ (day of week) _, from _ (start time) _ to _ (end time) _ (am/pm).

During our meeting time we try very hard to stay focused on one particular topic relating to our recovery…..however, if you have anything at all that you feel you want to share – please, feel free to talk about what is on your mind. Also, if you have a burning desire to use illicit drugs of any sort, or if you are a newcomer to this program, then please start by introducing yourself,  if you wish,  and telling us a little about why you are here. The Newcomer is always the most important person at any meeting, so please stay after the meeting and we will give you phone #’s in case you need a ride or any help at all.  (Be sure to “WELCOME ANYONE NEW”)

Now, as tradition states, we will open the meeting with the “Serenity Prayer”.

(Person Chairing starts the prayer by saying, “God, Grant me the Serenity to………”)

 

(Say “Thank You” to everyone after the Serenity Prayer is finished and then make sure all of the readings have been passed out to be read by different people………)

 

Can I please have a friend and fellow recovering addict read?

(1)   The Methadone Anonymous “PREAMBLE”. (Thank You)

(2)  The “12 STEPS” of Methadone Anonymous. (Thanks)

(3)  The “12 TRADITIONS” of Methadone Anonymous. (Thank You)

The Promises will be read at the end of the meeting so whoever has them please hold on to it until its time to be read…thanks again for everyone that read.

 

WE have a few rules that apply to everyone at this meeting:

(1)   Please wait until one person is finished sharing before you begin to share out of common respect for your fellow addict. ( Basically, No Cross Talk)

(2)  There is to be no drug paraphernalia or illicit drugs on any person at any time during this meeting.

(3)  If you have used today it is suggested that you sit back and listen and get with someone after the meeting is through. This is for everyone’s protection from cravings, etc……

(4)  Anonymity is imperative. What is said here stays HERE!

(5)  It cost nothing to belong to M.A., you are a member when you say you are.

The Floor is now open for our meeting………who would like to start us off?

(Pick the very first person that says anything or raises their hand, and if nobody is willing or you have a shy crowd, then of course, you will have to share first)

Our 7^th Tradition states that we are fully self-sufficient, declining outside contributions, the money in the basket pays for coffee, rent if needed, literature, and the rest is donated to our meeting for picnics and events that we schedule to participate in. 

 

(10 minutes before the meeting is adjourned the person chairing the meeting must make everyone aware of what time it is…and that we only have time for one or two more people to share….before ending the meeting with "The Promises".)
